Embraco presents new compressor platforms

Global refrigeration technology provider Embraco has put two new compressors into mass production: the ES and FMS. According to the company, these products embody the main trends in the segment: miniaturisation, energy efficiency, natural refrigerants, better food preservation and lower noise.

The smaller of the two, the FMS (pictured), is a variable speed compressor just 123mm tall that reaches 265W of maximum capacity. The FMS is also aimed at making variable-speed technology – and its energy-efficiency benefits – more accessible worldwide. According to Embraco, variable-speed compressors can save up to 40 per cent compared with traditional fixed-speed compressors at system level, and operate with 15–20 per cent less noise than equivalent fixed-speed compressors on steady state condition.

The ES is a fixed-speed compressor suitable for a wide range of applications, from water coolers to a large variety of residential refrigerators. It is 155mm tall, which is 11 per cent smaller than its predecessor, the EM3. The ES reaches 166W of cooling capacity, which according to Embraco is about 20 per cent higher than market standard for this category of size, with 1.83W/W of energy efficiency. To provide assembly flexibility, the ES also features a suction port that adapts to the system layout.

Both the FMS and ES compressors work on natural refrigerant R600a (isobutane), which does not deplete the ozone layer and has a GWP of 3.

“The ES and FMS represent a new stage in our product portfolio, achieving great results in our customers’ applications already using them in mass production,” says Ricardo Bristotti, Home Appliances Vice-president at Nidec Global Appliance.

“Both are state-of-the-art products, made to fulfill not only refrigerator manufacturers’ requirements, but also consumers’ needs, such as energy efficiency combined with high cooling capacity and future-proof refrigerants. Particularly FMS, brings new design possibilities to residential refrigeration due to its small size.”

The new compressors will be manufactured in Embraco’s sites in Joinville, Brazil, and Apodaca, Mexico, where the company has invested heavily in recent years to upgrade production facilities.
