Hitachi launches SideSmart VRF

Hitachi Cooling & Heating has introduced SideSmart, a new modular variable refrigerant flow (VRF) system offering space-saving advances.

“SideSmart is a brand-new category of VRF which is slim and modular, delivering space-saving installation advancements in mid-size commercial buildings whilst providing high-performance air conditioning with flexible controls and maximum comfort,” says Hitachi.

Measurements for the SideSmart VRF unit start from 1,650×1,050×420mm, making it suitable for projects in medium-size buildings with limited space. Its modularity means that up to four units can be connected, offering a maximum combined capacity of 54HP (150kW cooling capacity).

“Thanks to its slim, modular concept, larger capacity air conditioning can be achieved almost anywhere,” says Hitachi, “making SideSmart one of the most versatile VRF systems on the market.”

According to Hitachi, because SideSmart is a lighter unit, it presents fewer complications during delivery and installation, offering larger air conditioning capacities without utilising extra space.

“SideSmart can be installed on the preferred floor, either balconies or utility rooms, so you can optimise the system design,” says Hitachi. “This helps reduce the length of piping between indoor and outdoor units, increasing efficiency and freeing the rooftop of air conditioning equipment.”

The outdoor unit has three ESP settings (0/30 and 60pa) to cater for balcony grills or louvers. SideSmart has up to 500m total pipe length and up to 120m length with indoor unit, making it adaptable to different building layouts.

Selected indoor and outdoor units are available with FrostWash, a new cleaning technology that Hitachi says provides “fresher air all year round”.

The system cools the heat exchanger down, forming a thin layer of frost from the moisture within the air. According to Hitachi, while the frost is being formed, it lifts dust particles, mould and bacteria off the heat exchanger and traps it. Once an adequate layer of frost has been formed, the system then melts the ice, flushing away the trapped dust particles, mould, and bacteria hygienically through the drain pan. The unit then thoroughly dries the surfaces inside the unit before resuming normal operation.

SideSmart VRF is also compatible with airCloud Pro.

“The app makes managing your VRF systems easy,” says Hitachi. “Control your entire VRF systems or selected zones in one touch with custom user access restrictions, temperature adjustment, fan speed, and modes settings with ease. airCloud pro also allows intuitive scheduling (plan operations ahead based on your business hours) and clear error history with concise error description and follow-up.”
